The Photography Group meets on the 4th Thursday of each month between 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm in the Village Hall, Station Road, Balsall Common CV7 7FF. Members contribute £2 per meeting to cover the costs including hire of the hall, refreshments, external judges and speakers.
Our aim is to enjoy, through self-help learning principles, opportunities to improve our photographic skills by sharing members’ interests, skills and experiences. These include “seeing” and “composing” the picture, taking it correctly using whatever camera you own (be it “state of the art” or “point and shoot”) and the production of images (digital or print).
Each month we hold a themed photographic competition where prints and projected images are assessed either by group members or a visiting judge (usually quarterly).
Frequently there will be a talk on some photographic skill or a “hands on” workshop, all of which is outlined in this year’s programme. As with the meeting, a field trip is arranged, normally once a month, to a variety of places to take themed photos and learn from each other “on the spot”. These images are shown and assessed at the next meeting. Recent venues included Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Avoncroft Museum and National Memorial Arboretum. In September 2018 we had an Awayday to the Black Country Living Museum.
Every six months, in January and July, we have an exhibition of members’ prints in Balsall Common Library. Members’ photographs can also be seen in “The Bugle.”
If you are interested, please come along to one of our meetings where you will be warmly welcomed.
Access to the Photography Members Page is restricted to Group members only. If you have forgotten your username and password please contact the Webmaster.
