Joining Balsall Common U3A
Make the most of life once you’re no longer in full time work by exploring new ideas, skills and interests with your local u3a. Across the UK, u3a members are learning, staying active and having fun in later life. It’s local, social, friendly, low-cost and open to all. There’s so much out there to experience what’s stopping you?
The u3a is a non-religious and non-political organisation with a vision to make lifelong learning, through the experience of the u3a, a reality for all its members. It follows the ethos of “Learn, Laugh & Live” with no entry qualifications required and no qualifications given. There is no lower age limit to join but the u3a is for people in their ‘third age’ retired or semi-retired.
The u3a is different from most other adult learning organisations. Rather than paying people to teach, all members are encouraged to share their knowledge and talents with each other for pleasure. Interest groups are formed covering a wide range of topics and activities as shown below. Groups meet during the day at various venues in Balsall Common. Group leaders give their time voluntarily as no one in any u3a is paid. Balsall Common u3a has over 300 members with 32 interest groups.
A core meeting is held on the first Thursday afternoon of each month with a guest speaker. It starts at 2pm. in St Peter’s Hall, Holly Lane, Balsall Common CV7 7EA. The hall has level access for wheelchairs, free off-road parking, and an induction hearing loop.
The annual membership for 2023 is £15.00 (or £10.00 if you join after 30th June 2023). Some groups make a small additional charge to cover the cost of room hire and refreshments.
We offer the opportunity to make new friends, learn a new skill, visit places of interest or take up a new hobby. Why not come along to a core meeting, and see how we “Learn, Laugh & Live”?
