u3a Eye Photographs 2024

Since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown the Third Age Trust are running a now monthly project to encourage people to take and submit pictures of their surroundings during this unprecedented time. They are going to post a different theme each month and invite u3a members to submit their photos on that topic.

This is not a competition and it is not about your photographic skill — what we want from you are interesting photos, possibly different ways of viewing things, anything which has captured your imagination or caught your eye. The photograph must have been taken during or since the lockdown.

At the end of every month we will choose and publish up to 15 photos on an online gallery for each theme so that all members can enjoy the images. All you need to do to upload your photo is to click here, complete the form and upload your image.

Click  here for details of the current topic and selected photographs for past topics.

So far in 2024 there have been 7 photos from 4 members for 3 themes.

Below are displayed the images that have been submitted by Balsall Common u3a photography group members in 2024 and been selected by the panel:

March 2024, theme Worn

"The Linen Basket" by John

After our clothes have been worn, they are tossed into the linen basket ready to be washed.

"Threadbare Bear, Old, Worn, Treasured." by Susan

I have had this bear, called Mr Tubby, since I was a child. He has been with me through my many life journeys, always constant, never critical. I love him unconditionally, which, given his threadbare state, is just as well.

"Weathered Wood" by Karen

Taken on Sandsend Beach — this little weathered groyne post had a great shape n texture. Worn into a smooth U shape by the tide n weather.

"What time is the next collection" by Carolyn

This rather unusual post box was spotted in Fort Cochin. I wondered how long it had been in service as it was looking almost as battered as the door behind it.

February 2024, theme Home Town Pride

"Lady Godiva" by John Bolt

Coventry. Every hour, on the hour, a plastic Lady Godiva briefly parades above Broadgate, the main square, watched by Peeping Tom. It's all over in a few seconds. Unfortunately, I believe she is not working at the moment.

"Ozzy" by Karen

Pride of Birmingham — Ozzy the bull, first seen at the Commonwealth Games.

January 2024, theme Space

"Space to sit and think" by Karen

My favourite spot to sit a while and reflect on life. This is at the top of Rosedale Bank, North Yorkshire. You can see for miles. Space across the moors and huge skies.
